Welcome to
Emmie’s World!
A Heartwarming Story about Big Emotions
Many of us never learned how to understand our feelings.
We grew up hearing “calm down,” “cheer up,” or “toughen up.” But big emotions like anger, sadness, or worry aren’t problems to hide. They can offer natural guidance and messages worth understanding.
Emmie the Emotion Owl changes that.
Join Emmie on her first big adventure, guided by her wise Grandma Owl, as she learns to turn big feelings into powers, even ones that can help others!
The Foundation
Understanding Emotion:
Our Inner Navigation
Much like physical senses alert us when something is too hot or too loud, emotions can give us information about how we experience the world. By understanding their messages, we can navigate life’s big adventures with greater confidence.
Understanding Color:
A Visual Guide
Every color in the spectrum has a place, and each emotion can offer something to learn. From red’s strength and passion to indigo’s intuition, Emmie’s wise Grandma Owl shows her how to recognize each feeling and explore what its message may be.
Understanding Practice:
Proactive vs. Reactive
Once a meltdown hits, thinking clearly can be hard. Children can practice recognizing and exploring emotions through colors during storytime, helping them feel better prepared and less reactive when the next one comes.
The Journey
Creative Mentors
From the design process, I learned that color, light, and layout work together to create harmony, and that every element has a purpose. That lesson helped me see emotions the same way.
Mindful Minds
For over a decade, I worked alongside thoughtful and devoted life coaches, finding ways to manage stress. This led us to create the building blocks for understanding emotions, helping shape Emmie's World.
Believing Hearts
From educators and mental health professionals to family and friends of all ages, this story reflects the heart and wisdom of many. It took a caring village to help bring Emmie’s World to life.
Guiding North Star
A Note from Tala Rooh
Growing up, I was captivated by my grandmother’s storytelling. Her greatest lesson was about the quiet guidance we carry in our hearts, planting the seed of my North Star.
In design class, whenever I felt stuck, my mentor would ask, “Are you using your tools?” She was right. She taught me that the right tools can help us move forward. I began to see emotions in the same light. Each one can help us when we feel stuck, helping us find our way.
In honor of my grandmother, my village, and the families I have yet to meet, I created Emmie's World. Written for children, Emmie the Emotion Owl comes alive even more when read together. It is a gentle way to open conversations about big feelings and learn something new.
I welcome you to join us on the colorful journey ahead.
